A Family Time Session usually takes 30–90 minutes from arrival to final shot. The short end happens when we’re staying in one spot with a small group. The long end is what you’ll want if you’ve got little kids, extended family, or you’re trying to squeeze in a couple of quick looks. We keep it calm and efficient, and people regularly tell us they love how professional, friendly, and easygoing the session feels, even when we’re moving fast.

Our appointment length is one hour, and that’s the sweet spot for most families. But in real life, your total time can land anywhere in that 30–90 minute range depending on who’s coming, where we’re shooting, and how many “must-have” groupings you want.
A simple breakdown we use:
- Arrival and quick setup (10–20 min): we pick the best light, talk through your shot priorities, and get everyone comfortable.
- Active shooting (20–60 min): a mix of guided posing and natural moments, with quick resets so it doesn’t feel stiff.
- Wrap and last call shots (5–10 min): the “one more with Grandma” groupings and any kid or pet bonus moments.
What makes it shorter
One location. Minimal outfit changes. A small family group that’s ready to roll. If you’ve got toddlers, shorter can actually work in your favor. We’ll guide poses quickly, keep the energy up, and grab candid shots in between so you don’t feel like you’re “performing” the whole time.
What pushes it toward 90 minutes
Extended family combinations, more than one location, and a long shot list. And in Dallas, the heat and humidity matter. If we’re shooting near White Rock Lake or around Casa Linda in the summer, we usually plan early morning or evening light so everyone looks fresh and relaxed, not shiny and squinty.
How to make your Family Time Session photos last for decades (prints and digital)
The session itself is quick. The goal is photos you still love years from now.
